Are there factors that influence our health and happiness?

Yes. Our health and happiness is influenced by 3 major factors:

Ignoring our own conscience
In happy times, our thinking is aligned with the higher values of life. When this harmony is lost and the mind goes off on a tangent away from honesty, we lose our inner sense of comfort. We are no longer at ease with our self. According to Ayurveda, this is how disease begins.

Unwholesome and imbalanced use of the five senses
According to Ayurveda, it is the overexertion, over-stimulation, and improper use of our mind and senses that further leads us to feeling more alienated from our own sense of peace and contentment.

Weather and Climate
In ancient times, the weather definitely provided challenges to our health. In modern times, the artificial climates of our home and office can shock our system when we move from our air conditioned home into the scalding heat of the backyard. Furthermore, the lack of natural humidity in these artificial environments effects our attitudes and our vigor.
