here is a letter from Blair:
Dear Friends,
The purpose of this
letter is to introduce myself and to share with you our office
policies. I would really appreciate you taking a few moments
to read over my comments. Thanks!
As a simple introduction,
I am Blair Lewis, a physician assistant, who has practiced classical
homeopathy and natural medicines for over 26 years. I have seen
many chronic diseases treated naturally with great success. When
you come to see me, I will share with you the best of what I
know.
Why try
a natural approach? Because it is so much safer.
"Prescription drugs kill about 106,000 people annually and injure another
2.2 million," said Michael Q. Ford, NNFA's executive director, referring
to a study published last year in the Journal of the American Medical Association
(JAMA 1998; 279: 1200-1205). -- According to a news release on June 23, 1999
from the NNFA, the National Nutritional Foods Association of Newport Beach, California.
"By contrast, according
to FDA records, dietary supplements average less than 16 deaths
per year. That means that supplements are more than 6,000 times
safer than heavily regulated medications."
I believe that prescription
medicines can be life saving and very helpful. However, if a
doctor is only trained in prescription medicines, then that is
all he or she can offer you.
If the only tool you
have is a hammer.
Every problem you see looks like a nail.
If the only tool you have is a prescription pad.
Every problem you see looks like it needs a prescription. But remember,
prescription medicines do save lives!
....... and so do natural therapies.
Getting well and staying
well requires a deep understanding of both health and illness.
We want you to know how the body and mind can become disturbed
and how that disturbance, if not resolved, can eventually lead
to a chronic illness.
Modern conventional
medicines can help you suppress a pain, a sensation or a feeling;
but it does not teach you how to resolve the problem. By ignoring
or suppressing feelings and sensations, our physical bodies,
minds, emotions and spiritual qualities will eventually start
to beg for attention.
Medicine today must
help the client explore the relationship between their previous
actions (physical, emotional, and inter-personal relationships)
and the resulting illness or problem. Your insight into this "cause
and effect relationship" provides the key to the return
of joy and good health.
Direct medical treatment
and evaluation is designed to provide immediate temporary relief
from suffering. Temporary relief provides an opportunity to catch
one's breath and discover how we get sick and what helpful actions
we need to take to get well.
Our goal is to help
you learn how to heal now and provide you with the knowledge
of how to stay well in the future. Unfortunately, most of us
think prevention only means checking our cholesterol and blood
pressure at the local pharmacy. This is not prevention, it is
early detection. At Alive and Healthy, prevention is making pro-active
changes in one's breathing patterns, learning how to eat a healthier
diet and making both mind and body more flexible.
We must directly experience
how our breathing patterns and dietary patterns effect our mind
and emotions, and how our mind and emotions effect our breath
and digestion.
Paying attention to
these factors will help you to learn to live more skillfully
in your daily life. You will move through your day in a manner
that will not create problems for you tomorrow. Once you no longer
over-extend yourself at any level, you can then systematically
expand your capacity to encompass greater responsibility than
you ever dreamed possible.
We offer you our services
to help your highest dreams become reality.
Best Wishes,
Blair L. Lewis, PA-C
